The mission of SouthWest Writers is given in our tagline "writers help writers". The purpose of our annual contest is to fulfill this mission by encouraging writers to use their voice in the world. This year we had over 400 entries in twenty five categories from talented writers and artists eager to share their work. First, a huge congratulations to everyone who entered the contest! Entering a contest is a big step for a beginning writer or even a more experience one. No matter where you are on their writing journey, this is a way to test your work in public. You are a winner because you took a chance on yourself and your writing. The second phase of the contest is to judge the entries. We called on a panel of expert judges to evaluate the entries, including our sister organizations New Mexico State Poetry Society and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators New Mexico. This anthology highlights the winning entries in all categories. We are delighted by the quality of these entries and hope our readers will be too. Our top entries came from all over the country and beyond. The writers are from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and education. Like the pieces of a mosaic these voices come together in beautiful patterns that enrich each other while also maintaining their own identity. Enjoy this mosaic of voices!
