Norman J Elson was born in London, England. He attended The Grocers Company Grammar School, where he excelled in English and sport and not much else. He had aspirations to become a writer, but a school careers officer convinced him that this was not a good idea. Disappointed, he left school at 15 and worked in many areas, notably as a salesman, accountant and a professional tennis coach. It was about this time that he started writing poetry. He was also very much into music and played the drums in a couple of bands in the 1960's and 70's. His favourite medium was still poetry, but around this time he joined Alaska Records as a songwriter Here he teamed up with his old friend Alan Carvell, backing singer to Elton John, Sheena Easton and The Who, amongst others. They had varying degrees of success, but he eventually became disillusioned with the music industry and returned to his first love, poetry. He gained a considerable reputation in North London, in particular in the pub he regularly frequented where he had a "Poet's Corner" at the end of the bar. People would approach him regularly for advice, or to ask him to read their poetry. Mostly though, it was to ask him to write a poem, either about, or for them, and usually when they were going through an emotional upheaval. Some of these poems feature in this book. These poems are a selection from his experiences of life and love and also the experiences of those around him. We hope you enjoy the book.
