Jim a young boy is sent to the New South Wales country to live with a foster family due to his mum being unfit to care for him. At his new school he meets a strange girl Jenny who has a kinship with the trees in the area. Jim discovers that this girl holds other secrets not least that she can call on the help of many wombats to repair and plant new trees. But it is not wombats that helped repair trees in the distant past, it was an ancient creature which Jim finds out that he and his mother are bound to as his mother is a falling star guardian!
