As one of the intellectuals educated in communist China, the author was lucky to be able to study in the United States. And thus he had an opportunity to compare the difference between the two systems. Gradually he revised his views on dictatorship from directly personal feeling. Following that, he touched upon a series of political issues, such as human rights, showing the sword and self-concealing, the path to democracy, the human rights, as well as the gains and losses of the unity of a large country. These articles are based on independent thought, some of them have been discussed by friends. The book also raised some open questions about the present status and its future of China. However, no matter how hard it is, democracy and freedom will come true eventually.
