She kidnaps her two daughters and flees South Dakota to her home town of Paradise in northern Michigan. While in hiding, they befriend several townies Sara doesn't recognize from childhood. People seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive in Paradise. This doesn't go unnoticed for long as Gray soldiers storm the town looking for defectors. Their only chance for permanent safety is to flee to Canada by walking the straits of Lake Superior when frozen in late winter. But with her husband tracking them and bounty hunters looking to make money off of AWOL soldiers, will they live to see the lake freeze? The Split explores who Americans becomes when America is no more.
