What Is Not Understood, Needs To Be Said: Exploring The Complexities Of Black Girls

For far too long young black females have been an after-thought in all aspects of society. They are not born into privilege and suffer because of their sex and race. What we must all understand is that this is not a black girl problem, this affects us all. We are not setting our black girls up for success. Are we providing them with all the opportunities that others have? Do we recognize her struggles and strategically start programs, interventions, protocols, and initiatives that target these black girls to improve the rate of success? Are these actions productive and sustainable? Are you (policymaker, parent, educator, and stakeholder) being intentional in the classroom, home, community, and church to provide activities and opportunities that cater to black girls? I want to make you aware that these girls are not okay. Yes, they are strong and fierce, but they are still children that need support, guidance, and a fair chance. This book is for anyone raising a black girl, teaching young black girls, or currently existing as a young black girl. This book is to help bring light to the complexities that come with being born in America, black and female. Throughout this work, I will attempt to address some of these complexities and provide guidance to help support our black girls for those that are attempting to raise and teach them in today's society.
