So, somehow, in my teenage years and, as a young adult, I developed that aspect ofmy personality, in that I would not automatically believe, or follow what I was told, without making my own judgments on the issues of beliefs and practices, that wouldarise, in the course of my life.Years later, at age 25, in 1970, found me contributing "my bit" to the Anglican Church(then known as the "Church of England"), by acting in the capacity of a Sunday Schoolteacher. It was then that there arose a "disturbance in the force": A long standing friend, fromschool days, Maxwell, had been listening to an American preacher, one "Garner TedArmstrong", who presented a Sunday morning radio program called, "The WorldTomorrow". Maxwell had also been sending away for their free literature with titles like,"The Crucifixion was not on a Friday" and "God's True Holy Days" and would leavethem with me, to obtain my opinion thereon. The literature seemed to present such unarguable stances that, in a matter of months, along with my wife, of four years, I abandoned the Anglican Church and was baptizedinto Garner Ted Armstrong's church, then known as the "Worldwide Church of God"(the "WCG"). In or about 1976, I was subsequently ordained a Deacon of the Church, thereby assisting the ordained Ministers, in performing their pastoral duties, includingpresenting "sermonettes" during Sabbath services.Members of that Church were instructed to do at least one half hour each of prayer,Bible study and meditation, every day. However, in or about 1980, there was a changein the leadership of the WCG, whereby some of the previously "immutable teachings"were changed. This was, in my view, their "undoing", because of my diligently followingthe Bible's epistle instructions to "prove all things; hold fast, that which is good" (1Thessalonians 5.21), I subsequently abandoned that church also, early in 1981, tobecome an "independent Christian".
