The "Bishop's Prison," is a book with a dark theme, but it is not a dark book. And though it takes place within the darkness of a prison and the darkness of the human heart, it is illuminated with streaks of light and hope and warmth from some of the same characters of "King Bartholomew," most especially King Sigmus and Bishop Jacob. The people of Man are frightened, for it is said that the devil has come to the Isle of Man. Inside the dreaded Bishop's Prison is interred the reprehensible Barabbas. The King has locked him away for the crime of blasphemy. The devil has come to pay a visit to the strange man even as the bishop pleads for the right to see him and hear his confession. But it is the great deceiver who will provoke the deepest confession.
