This is not so much a book of recipes per se, as a History Book of Recipes. An eclectic mix of Recipes of the World, they are also Recipes of the Ages. Many are ?country favorites? people from Texas, the Deep South of the U.S.A. were raised on - therefore by extension the basic dishes of the peasantry of Europe time out of mind. They are current, old, tried, true, forever young recipes - little changed over centuries, but most don?t realize it unless doing the research which this clearly reveals. Originally begun as an effort to preserve favorite, old-time, much loved recipes/memorabilia of two very different families brought together by marriage, these recipes are those sifted down to us over time, gathered here from the descendants of European settlers along the Eastern Seaboare, and by extension to two main areas of the United States: the Deep South, and the Texas/ Southwest, Those of the Deep South are were brought over mainly by 85% of whom were Irish - and reflect many much-loved favorites of England, Austria and the entire European continent time out of mind; the Food of the Peasantry. Recipes of Texas/Southwest also include these European/Deep South favorites ( the Texas Southwest was settled by people from the Southeastern states). Also contained herd are everyday old time favorites of other Texas settlers; Germans, Swedes, Czechs, Poles, and others. Indeed, the author?s Texas born wife is Czechoslovakian ...and I hasten to include the many original Texas settlers from Old Mexico. Favorite ?Tex-Mex? recipes and basic recipes the Author collected while living in the rurality of Mexico are included, many with entertaining anecdotes as to how he got them. Basic favorites of California (Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese dishes); those of the Pacific Northwest, as well as Midwestern, and regional recipes of the Northeast; the different seafood chowders and eclectic mix of ethnic foods of such as Italian, African, Oriental, Middle/Far Eastern - from peoples all over the world. And let us not forget the all-time favorite Louisianna Cajun Seafood Recipes included herein.
