Spiritual Diseases Of The Unbridled Tongue

The tongue, the littlest member of the human body is a mighty instrument. It holds the power of life or death. It can sow a world of iniquity or it can release a flood of blessings. Yet many fail to realize the inherent dangers it presents, or its defiling nature if untamed. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: -James 3:5-7 The unbridled tongue can provoke strife, contention, division, and war. It's an unruly evil full of deadly poison and spreads corruption. "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." -1 Corinthians 15:33 Man has successfully tamed other members of God's creation, yet the tongue he is unable to tame. "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison." -James 3:8 An unbridled tongue can open the way for diseases to manifest in the life of a believer by crushing or wounding the spirit. It can block the blessings of God from being realized, because of doubt and unbelief. Or it can release a wave of shame and guilt which can eliminate hope.
