We all want the best for our parents and loved ones, but who can take better care of them than us. Who can make them comfortable when they tell you its freezing cold inside the home and outside the temperature is 80 degrees? Who can calm their fears when they are crying and asking for their parents in the middle of the night? Who can explain to them why their hair is white and your hair is even whiter? I am thankful there is a God who can hear our innermost thoughts. The Alzheimer's patient, as well as the caregiver, has a voice and both are silent screamers that no man understands. Psalms 94:11 says, "The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man ... ." As a Christian, I choose to believe that life's trials come to make us strong, and without God we can do nothing. Who knows each person's journey in life? Did my mother choose to have Alzheimer's? NO! But I chose to be her caregiver. Recalling memories of when someone is ill or just unpleasant stirred up these basic instincts in me to learn patience, be respectful and not haughty, recognize when being drawn into an argument, and listen well. Then at the end of the day rejoice that you both survived!This book will benefit every home, church, bookstore, public library, medical center, hospital, hospice organization, and doctor's office -- as well as nursing staffs, counselors, and employment services at federal, state, city, and county levels. Most importantly, this book will prepare and alert potential caregivers to observe signs that Alzheimer's is affecting a loved one.
