Despite previous brushes with death while investigating the extreme right in the time of Donald Trump, freelance journalist Waylon Choy once again finds himself trying to understand the murky alt-right world, this time in Canada. As he chases down those responsible for two rapes and an assault that left a brave young woman in a coma, an important question arises: What is the connection between misogyny and fascism? In the third book of the FAKE NEWS Mystery series, Choy must make another road trip, this time to the oil capital Calgary, to solve a crime for which he feels personally responsible. Everything about it makes him feel guilty - leaving his children, 'employing' an unpaid intern, even his means of transportation, a restored 1965 AMC convertible, which as his daughter so forcefully, and correctly, points out, spews carbon into the atmosphere, thus contributing to global warming. While he has mostly overcome his fear of confronting neo-Nazi bullies Choy worries about endangering his young intern, which may or may not underscore his own sexism. It is a struggle to focus on what is critical: Are the young men who gather on an incel website message board simply pathetic or potentially dangerous?
