Johnny Coldiron's first day as zoning officer in the tiny township of Bart, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania was the exact same day and place of the Nickel Mines school shooting. Because of this, the charismatic man felt he was put there for a reason and tried to help the community however he could. For nearly nine years he happily zoomed through Bart, collecting stories while issuing building permits, solving problems, and giving advice to the mostly Old Order Amish, earning their respect and the title, "The Roving Bishop." Then all at once everything went wrong. When a supervisor disagreed with a crucial zoning decision he made, he expected to have to fight for his job. But when he went to the doctor because of his constant digestive trouble, he never expected to have to fight for his life.
