A broken robot, Sir 1280 is thrown from a helicopter; dragged along the shore by a big slobbery dog; found by a dubious store owner, Mr. Fitch, and thrown in the ally for the garbage truck's doom--until young Dree finds it. She renames it Sir Scrap Metal and with her two older brothers, bring it to their Grandma's cottage only to discover that it is very sophisticated robot owned by its inventor, Agent Rouso. Scrap Metal wants to retire and be adopted by this family. Rouso is in pursuit of it for its very important 'black box' that contains valuable information.
