Many folks think that when lawful authorities respond to certain sensational criminal or unusually violent public events that they fail to appropriately represent regular citizens' level of anger or indignation at the original incident. In select instances, when justice if viewed as not being served by applying the wrong level or type of punishment for the perpetrators, it's possible for vigilante activities to emerge. Distraught citizens take the law into their own hands. Sometimes there are mob reactions, sometimes there are single person reactions, most of which receive little publicity. There are eight vigilante stories here of varying type. Violence is a consistent theme. Be forewarned. Someone always gets badly hurt. My virtual vigilantes are serious about their trade, and want to ensure their disgust and/or wrath is well recognized and remembered, if their victims remain alive. Two stories set in London in 2012 are based on true public incidents that took place there. They both made my blood boil at the time. My anger led me to thoughts of wishful responses. Possible forms of revenge are presented. Where specific streets and places are named, you'll find them to be true locations in the city. The vigilante responses are of course fictitious. Two stories are set in Canada, specifically on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. In each, there is slight carryover into the U.S. Both these stories, as described, represent incidents that have taken place in various countries across the world. Once again you will find the named locations and entities to be real. The stories are fiction of course. In 1825, 35 years after the first convicts were transported from Britain to the antipodes, Sydney was still a rough town. Lawlessness was rampant in the less salubrious areas where emancipists and convicts lived side by side. Four stories in the book are based on rumored incidents in the area of Sydney known as the Rocks. They do not reflect any specific cases, but again they take place in locations that are true to the times.
