Hoagie & Katie Take Flight

Best friends Hoagie the hamster and Katie the capybara continue their adventure in this final book in the Hoagie & Katie series (third book). Venturing far and wide, they find themselves among the Shimko family and their lush Costa Rican farm, where they meet a whole cast of special characters. When Hoagie the hamster traveled to the jungles of Costa Rica, his human girl had brought all of his familiar comforts: his cozy bed, favorite treats, and of course, his purple hamster ball. Hoagie was excited to go on an adventure and live in a new place for a while! One fine afternoon, Hoagie was placed outside in his hamster ball. Hoagie couldn't wait to explore his new surroundings. Hoagie rolled and rolled and rolled. He noticed the grass was thicker and taller than in his backyard at home, like it hadn't been mowed in ages! Hoagie longed to crawl out of his ball, climb a tree, and get a good peek of the wilderness. Instead, he played it safe and kept on rolling. Hoagie didn't feel the yard gently sloping and didn't think twice when his ride became more bumpy (he thought it was more fun that way). Most of all, Hoagie didn't pay attention when the bright sunlight was suddenly hidden by tall, thick, forest trees. Hoagie's ball started to gain speed, and rolled so fast, he whooped and hollered. Hoagie was having the time of his life! Eventually, Hoagie had rolled very far away from his humans' cottage and he could not hear his worried girl calling out his name. Hoagie was lost. The ground had gotten very rocky, and without warning, the door to Hoagie's hamster ball broke open! He tumbled out, and was surprised to find himself in the shady jungle! Scared and confused, he squeaked out for help, but no one was there to save him. While Hoagie was very sad to be lost from his girl, he was the type of hamster who enjoyed a good challenge. Much to his surprise, Hoagie began an adventure of a lifetime that day. Eventually, Hoagie faced danger, learned to conquer his fears, and developed a lifelong friendship with a capybara named Katie. The two of them went on an epic journey, ending with Hoagie being adopted by Katie's family. And even though Hoagie never forgot his wonderful girl, he was glad to have found a new, loving home.
