While on a visit to Water, Archer and Aradia learn that Chion, the tyrant king of Palori, sent his guard to kidnap Pazia, the children's teacher. In the chaos that follows, Pacion disappears. While Archer fears for Pacion, King Ichos orders Marcoli, Water's crystal master, to discover why Chion raided Balycon.But when Marcoli directs the crystal ball to tour Chion's kingdom to determine why he sent his guard to kidnap Pazia, the crystal ball reveals a terrifying horror. A dragon horde has descended upon the kingdom and is living in a cave outside Palori. Although safe in the fortified city, Chion and a few loyal subjects travel to a nearby haven. King Ichos sends Archer and Aradia to Chion's haven to convince the tyrant king they can save his kingdom. Suspicious of the air breathers, Chion fears they've come to rescue Pazia. Chion isn't about to let Archer and Aradia attempt to help until his mother recognizes Archer. After she reminds her son how Archer saved them from the storm that destroyed their home, Chion relents. He keeps Pazia and Aradia under armed guard and orders an escort to take Archer to Palori to prove his boast that he can save the kingdom without Aradia's help.
