You know, sometimes it's easier to share our personal story as if we were just an onlooker. But, come to think of it, at the time maybe that's just what I was-an onlooker. I mean, I was there when it all started. I held her little hand when she was afraid. I wiped her silent tears when she cried. I covered her mouth when she wanted to scream. I helped her hold onto her sanity. I was the one who showed up when she prayed. Why? Because I was that little girl.That summer of my eighth birthday was when life as I knew it was shattered. It's when the emotional darts began to wound my heart. It's when limiting beliefs began to take up residence in the depths of my mind, it's when toxic thoughts and negative spirits began to take root in my soul. For five years, I suffered in the silence of my secret. Let me tell you, a secret is a heavy burden for a child to bear, or for that matter, for anyone to bear.I finally gathered the courage to tell my daddy, mostly, so that I could protect my little sister from suffering the same fate. I was her protector and today I still call her my baby. You know, when I think back, somehow, it hurt even more that it was at the hands of someone my family trusted that the trajectory of my while life was changed.Now, I would love to tell you that after that moment of freeing myself of the truth, my life went back to "normal", but I would be lying to you and me. You see, negativity breeds negativity, evil attracts evil, and toxicity can poison a whole life. That is... until you decide to do something about it. So, one day I said to myself-Enough is Enough! I chose to exchange the ashes in my life for the beauty that they would one day become.My healing journey has not been an easy one, but I can definitely say that it was worth it! So now, my life's mission is like that of Harriet Tubman, "I got to go back!". I got to go back and help those who have been wounded by the darts of the enemy time and time again. I got to go back and help those who may be too afraid to face the truth of their enslavement.
