Paul is as much myth as he is man. He, along with a handful of others like him, walk among men but they are not men. They are immortals and they fancy themselves gods. People, corporations, and nations are just pawns for them to manipulate in their own sinister game of chess. To what end, none may know. Paul Lauder ruled over the New World - the Americas - and all the islands surrounding them. At his word nations grew and civilizations fell. Some prosper, some languish in poverty. While he, like his fellows, profit immensely from the successes and as well as the failures. Worldly riches weren't the only commodity these immortals require of us. As they are driven by their hunger for power, so also are they driven by their thirst for blood. To appease his own conscience, Paul seeks his sustenance from the dregs of society - murderers, robbers, drug dealers and the like having no regard for the rule of law. But the world Paul has built for himself is about to be destroyed by blood from a different source. When he discovers that he may have progeny borne of a marriage centuries ago, events are set in motion that will forever change the Ruler of the Americas. His descendants possess documents that, if made public, threaten to expose the shadow world of which he is a part. Should Paul throw caution to the wind for the sake of meeting his great, great, granddaughter? Or is it better to play it safe, destroy the documents and continue life as he has for hundreds of years? Even if he did choose to bury his past and renounce his flesh and blood, what of the Third Blood that will most certainly change everything?e dark lords of the earth, a vampire by human terms, has discovered that his whole life as he knew it has been a lie. By chance, he discovered a website started by his descendant, Katie Oliver, namesake of his wife, Katie Lauder McGuiness. Against his better judgment, Paul contacted Katie and her boyfriend, Michael Wray, and she gave him the journals of his departed wife and their son, who he hadn't known existed. Fearing the other dark lords, he kept his visit brief and refrained from further contact. Rather than being immortal as the vampire legends claimed, it is the beasts that possess him that prolong his life. He is subject to their will, and can be killed if he disobeys. The other dark lords created him for their purposes, stealing him from his family and telling him his family was killed in the Battle of Culloden. He disobeyed the dark lords already by making vampires of his wife Maggie and his best friend, Thomas O'Leary. The dark lords beat him severely. He feared that they would kill Katie if they knew he had found her. Still, he wanted to tell her of his life, as she had given him the journals from his wife that revealed the past he was unaware of. His servants watched his every move and reported back to the other lords, so he moved from his estate and created a new identity for Maggie and himself. Though he feared for his life and that of his loved ones should he be discovered, he began writing his biography for Katie and his future descendants. The Dark Lords weren't the only obstacles to avoid, however. Now that Paul didn't have servants to dispose of the bodies of their victims, the police were on the lookout for a serial killer. Michael's sister Cara, who Thomas was dating, was one of those officers. Paul's reminiscing, interwoven with his life, leads him to regret the life that was forced upon him, and the beasts threaten to over take him. Still the strong faith his father raised him with, guides his life and dangles hope before him.
