Maddy has inherited Violet's trunk and its valuable contents. Violet is a wealthy and liberated young woman who wants to make a difference, and who falls in love with a blue-eyed aristocrat at the time of the Wall Street crash. Meanwhile, her gender-fluid brother elopes with an heiress gigolette who keeps a crystal ball, and they invent an erotic game that they share with their friends. And, Violet and her friends are always sporting splendid jewellery and the latest fashions.Violet reluctantly returns home to Australia but makes new friends on the way, one of whom is a protective poodle called Boy. She also falls in love with a yachtsman who turns out to be more liberated and free than she ever dreamed.The story returns to present day with Maddy and her lover Charley (Charlotte), deciding how they can make a difference in light of Violets elegant legacy, which is much more than just posh bling.
