The Ride Of My Life

The Ride of My Life started its journey as a weekly diary by a senior electrician on the historic ship MV Doulos for his family and friends. Gary was born in Southern California. He spent some his childhood and part of his adult life living in the desert state of Arizona. His rich sense of humor colors the script.The kaleidoscope of happenings behind the scenes and the regular events in the ship's project makes the reading full of interest. Gary's outgoing personality has enabled him to connect with a diverse range of folks from many parts of the world. His rope tricks enthrall youngsters and his signing skills are appreciated by groups of folks with hearing challenges.His photographic gift also has enabled him to capture special events of all kinds. His multifaceted contributions to the ship's life and community have been so much appreciated.The Ride Begins Manila, Philippines October 17, 2001Well I made it!! One of eighty-seven new people to join the MV Doulos, in the Philippines. The Ride began as the Doulos left Manila, the Philippines a few days ago en route for Batangas, about eleven hours sailing time. We are still on the island of Luzon, where the people are very friendly. Although this town is "off the beaten path" for tourists, the people seem to really appreciate us being around. We had a team of forty go out today to help plant one hundred and twenty-five trees. We even made it on the local TV station, so this afternoon many people are coming to visit the ship. I have been pleasantly and happily busy giving tours to people who want to see the inside of the ship.
