What can a seagull do to save an animal 100 times his size? Jacques, a young seagull, goes out to play hoping to make new friends. He learns that a baby beluga whale is caught in a fishing net. Many of his new animal friends work together with him to free the baby. A Thornton Burgess or Beatrix Potter type of story in which all of the animal characters speak English, with a few common French words. The animals are described briefly at the end of Jacques story, along with vocabulary, suggested discussion questions and provisions for making paper book characters to re-enact the story. Obedience, inquisitiveness, friendship, and helpfulness are lessons that can be learned through this story.
