When Eli's father, a carpenter in the service of King Solomon, is kidnapped by pirates and spirited away from his home, the young Phoenician boy determines to discover his fate and bring him home.Years later, Eli sets off on a quest in a huge undertaking, ably assisted by Sofer-rafa, a wise man who is both well-travelled and knowledgeable. He will make friends and enemies in equal number, before he eventually finds his way to the Happy Islands that lie beyond the extent of the known world.But will he find his father and be able to rescue him?
