The genre of this book is historical fiction with a religious theme. Joe, a retired Veterinarian, is on a quest for Biblical truth. He is an agnostic who is afforded the opportunity to travel to the Holy Land fulfilling a life long dream. He hopes to somehow gain insight as to what transpired there over two millennia ago by walking on the ground where Jesus once walked, and by visiting the Christian holy sites.During his flight to Israel, he has a lucid dream in which Jesus is beckoning to him. This makes him even more excited about his expectations. While visiting the ruins of Capernaum with his wife, he is caught up in an electrical storm of huge proportions, which results in the formation of a wormhole propelling him back into the time of Christ. Joe is in a state of confusion and disbelief after this occurrence. He encounters the residents of the region and is exasperated by their interactions with him. He finally is able to overcome his denial of the circumstances and adapts to his immediate reality. With some difficulties, Joe is finally able to adjust to his conundrum by fitting in the existing culture. He does this by acquiring the appropriate attire, and speaking the natilve langauge. He hires a guide with a colorful personality, and begins his long search for Jesus and his apostles.During his search, Joe experiences many harrowing events such as hostile encounters with Romans, scorpions and a cobra, to say nothing of the unfriendly terrain and weather conditions. He uses his scientific knowledge, a cigarette lighter, penkife and compass to his advantage. In the process, he amazes many witinesses and is accused of witchcraft. He finally encounters Jesus, as in his dream, and is allowed to travel with hlim and his apostles. Joe is present when Jesus performs some of the miracles recorded in the New Testament but discovers discrepances and inconsistencies with the scrpture. Joe is able to resuscitate a drowned boy much to the astonishment of those present. Later, after extreme ambivalence, he save Judas;by performing an emergency appendectomy. He is plagued with the possibility that he may be changling lthe future. All present are in awe of his accomplishments. On their trip to Jerusalem, Joe experiences events which somewhat parallel those in the Bible, leading up to and including the cruclifixion. Also, he has intriguing dialogues with Christ's mother and family as well as Pontius Pilate in an attempt to save Jesus from his fate. After Jesus' death and entombment, Joe can't confirm a physical ressurection. but the Apostles are convinced by Peter that such has occurred.Joe leaves his friends with a heavy heart and travels back to Capernaum where he encounters another wormhole and is transported back to the future when he must decide whether his experiences were true or hullluclnatory. After a period of being ostracized, all ends well in an astonishing climax as his adventure is authenticated by an ancient relic in a museum.
