Energy Policy of the European Union

Energy is one of the major political issues of the twenty-first century and has been a foundation of the European integration project. For over sixty years, European states have worked towards achieving comprehensive energy security, but, in spite of undoubted progress, many obstacles still remain. This text analyses the evolution of the European Union's energy policy and addresses the implications of its current energy agenda. It reveals the protracted struggle to integrate national energy markets and to navigate international energy politics whilst responding to changing environmental norms.
