In The Cat and tne Canary, Cyrus West, a rich eccentric old man who felt that his relatives Òhave watched my wealth as if they were cats, and I--a canaryo asks that his will be read to his relatives twenty years after his death, in his family home, now an spooky old haunted mansion. When all are gathered, the will is read and it reveals that the entire inheritance is left to the relatives who still bear the name of West, provided they are legally sane. Annabelle West, a fragile young woman, becomes Cyrus WestÕs legal heir. Mysterious events take place, including murder, through the evening and night. Her sanity is put to the test as someone attempts to disown her of the inheritance. The Cat and the Canary was made into a movie several times and in different languages.
