Up Above features two adolescents, Zoe and Tod, who meet a homeless man. Mac reminds them of the Rock Man, who they experienced in a fantasy they had as children. The three try to help a runaway girl, who has been abused and is dissociating into a symbolic world. Meanwhile, a doctor in charge of a high-risk experimental treatment is in need of a human subject, and finds one in the runaway. In the end something uncanny happens, which reminds Zoe and Tod of their fantasy. Up Above explores homelessness, the meaning of symbolic realities, the dangers in authorities not understanding, and resolution towards true healing.
