Genova 1746-1748 presents a complete historicalpicture of the siege of Genoa by the combined Imperial and Piedmontese armiesduring the War of the Austrian Succession. There is particular focus on theevents, key characters of the siege and urban fortifications of Genoa, butabove all it studies the field fortifications built by both the besiegers anddefenders along the hills surrounding the city. This is the first comprehensivereview of these artifacts, which is the result of many years of extensivesurveys carried out on the territory by the author. Included are nearly threehundred photos, maps, drawings and models. The volume confirms the fundamentalfunction that military archaeology plays alongside traditional historical studyto reconstruct the contexts and appearance of the environment in which thehistorical events occurred, giving them a real location in the currentterritories.
