"Deirdre of the Sorrows" is a three-act play, written by the Irish playwright John Millington Synge. It was first performed at the Abbey Theatre by the Irish National Theatre Society in 1910. The play is based on Irish Mythology, in particular the myths concerning Deirdre and Conchobar. The work was unfinished at the author's death in 1909, but was completed by William Butler Yeats and Synge's fiancée, Molly Allgood. Edmund John Millington Synge (1871 - 1909) was an Irish poet, prose writer, and playwright. He was an influential figure in the Irish Literary Revival and co-founded the Abbey Theatre. Many antiquarian books such as this are increasingly hard to come by and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.
