In this book I will explore what it means to be human--to be embodied--in a digital age. In our individualist culture, many people adopt a personalized spirituality as a way of seeking meaning. I will argue, however, that true meaning comes from communal, religious ritual that accentuates what it means to be human and marks the rhythms and life passages of everyday life. Rituals have been intrinsic to the human story for millennia. And they nearly always connect us to some aspect of our embodied reality. It is certainly possible for people to create their own rituals for their personal lives, but will they? Will parents have the time and energy to devise rituals for their children? Dispite the remarkable ways technology enhances our lives, today's digital culture is at the same time leading to further disembodiment and fragmentation. This book builds on a Christian anthroplogy that unities mind, body, and spirt in the human person. My reflections will be founded in an incarnational and sacramental spirituality that recognizes the presence of God in daily life.--Page 2
