This drama is about Wisdom, Power and Beauty. These three qualities in life are essential elements in any society's survival. They are necessary in relation to leadership, citizenship and patriotism. A leader who misuses his power incurs the wrath of his own people - and this may place a colossal weight of disillusionment on them.Beauty on the other hand attracts power; a typical example can be deduced from the mythical story of the Trojan War, which was sparked by the beauty of Helen. In this Drama, Wisdom displaces Power in order to gain Beauty, which represents a state of satisfaction in the ever evolving human consciousness. The characters of this drama are named in my traditional language, Esan or Ishan - a more anglicised version. The Play, 'The Man Who Never Was' has the qualities of pure poetry. Most of the dialogues are written in verses. The aforementioned is the reason each line of some of the dialogues starts with a capital letter. This play can be classified as an epic (in terms of poetry). It is an allegory aimed at global consciousness but through the lens of a fictitious Esan community. The Man Who Never Was is set in the Esan region of Nigeria. I wrote it in my early twenties, then rewrote it in my mid-twenties. I reviewed it at the age of thirty. At thirty, I left Nigeria for the United Kingdom to explore the visual and performing art scenes. I took the manuscript with me to the UK. I arrived Heathrow on the 6th of December, 2006, and a close relative picked me up from the Airport. I stayed with them until I realised it was time to leave. Wherever I went, the manuscript went with me. I never had the opportunity to review or work on this manuscript until after twelve years.I met my wife in West London, during my days as a baker and we got married in 2015. Shortly after marriage, we moved to Camden in North West London where we lived for three and a half years before relocating to Scotland. We arrived Scotland in January 2019, after twelve years in London. Now let's avoid the long story. I finally got my manuscript finished in Scotland after twelve years of not being able to do anything with it in London, England. The lesson here is: our environments have ways of impacting us negatively or positively. The play explores the significance of the things around us.
