Many years after being evacuated, quarantined, and sealed off from the world beneath a colossal biohazard dome, plans are afoot to re-open parts of plague-infested Venice to its first tourists in almost a century. Ahead of the developers moving in, three students are granted privileged access to the long-dead city. They are accompanied by some of the senior academics who have based their researches there over the past decade: specialists in botany, archaeology, and biological decomposition. Their exploration of this overgrown Renaissance jungle takes in weed-bound canals, derelict churches, and the long-lost corners of a dense, deserted, and labyrinthine city. But by the time night falls, what began as just a fun, eerie field-trip, strays into strange and lethal territory.
