The Essential Guide to Effective School Counseling Programs guides readers through the process of developing, organizing, and managing a comprehensive school counseling program. The text begins with a chapter dedicated to the evolution of school counseling, in which readers learn about the history of the profession, foundational approaches, and the role of the school counselor. The subsequent chapters explain the practical details of creating a school counseling program, walking readers through the various steps from inception to implementation to maintenance. Readers explore why comprehensive school counseling programs are needed, review the unique and powerful features of the American School Counselor Association National Model, and follow the steps required to put a school counseling program plan into motion. Additional chapters offer tips for managing an effective program, demonstrating efficacy, adhering to ethical practices, and more. The book concludes with chapters on school counseling resources and the future of the school counseling profession, and provides advice for the continual growth of an established program. A valuable resource that prepares future school counselors for the opportunities and challenges of the profession, The Essential Guide to Effective School Counseling Programs is well suited for academic programs in school counseling. It can be used as a beginner's guide for school counselors or for practicing school counselors who want to learn more about developing a comprehensive school counseling program in their district. Rebecca Groves Brannock is a university professor and the director of the School Counseling Program at Pittsburg State University, where she teaches courses in freshmen experience, educational psychology, introductory counseling and psychotherapy, group dynamics, program planning and management of school counseling programs, and supervises school counseling practicum and internship students.
