There are three ghost stories in this book. Twinkle, Twinkle is set in 1901 and is about Talu, a young girl who some believes has returned to the hotel where she once lived with her mother before they were killed by a rich and powerful politician. Afterward, the staff believes the little girl now haunts the hotel and sings the children song, "Twinkle, twinkle."Set in 1919, twenty-two year old Amanda has bought an old house to try to escape her own sorrow of a losing her husband in WWI. As she roams through the cemetery, she sees a grave that seems to be an outcast in the cemetery, overgrown with weeds and biers, but when Amanda sees what in inscribed on the marker, she wonders just what kind of man was Thomas Matthew. A previous owner, Thomas Saunder has all the answers to the mysteries surrounding the grave and Amanda's new home. There are rumors of ghosts in her house, he tells her. The Little Brown House. A story of regrets, love, and hope, as a tornado rips through, destroying so many homes, trees, and beautiful grounds, but the little brown house is safe and so are the ones who occupy its dwelling. John Martin reminds his wife just how fortunate they are, and each person has his own time in this world. Reluctantly she agrees.
