From the opening days of WWII to Vietnam, from small town Nebraska to the poverty and isolation of a Wyoming high desert homestead and then a railroad shanty, this is a story of the land and the people of those times and places and the boy who grew to manhood among them. It was not a "Little Boxes" childhood. This book recalls a largely vanished America. In large part an America that had pretty well vanished at the time these events occurred. It is a true record of times and places now gone. While these stories, both tragic and comic, are true, some of the names have been changed. There are still some innocents out there.
