If you have read this book all the way through, you have read about many of the dogs of my life. There are others that did not make the book: Tippy, Buttons, Pee Wee, Specks, Cricket, Nugget, Morgan, Shadrach. I loved them all, and I know they loved me. I don't remember much about Tippy or Buttons. I was small when we had them. I have seen photos with each, and it was evident we had a mutual love relationship. I am thankful my parents raised me with pets. I am confident I learned compassion, love, and respect for all living creatures because of the relationship with my dogs. I cannot imagine my life without a dog. As I think back about all my dogs, I realize each was unique. We owned several different breeds, and many were mixed breeds. It did not matter. They were mine, and I cherished each in spite of their differences. Maybe I even loved them because of their differences. We live in a diverse world with many different races, nationalities, ethnicities, backgrounds, life experiences, social order, and economic conditions. I believe I have learned our differences are not as important as those things we have in common. All people are precious in God's sight. That is the nature of our loving God. The challenge for us is to love as he loves. God does not look at color, nationality, race, or anything else that makes us different. He created us with unique personalities. Perhaps he did that so we might have opportunities to practice patience, love, understanding, tolerance, and forgiveness. I am glad we are different. I am glad my dogs were different. Had they all been the same, I would not have learned to look past the superficial but look into what each was created to do'to serve the master in many and diverse ways. We too must serve our Master wherever we are and no matter what our differences may be with the people with whom we come in contact with. Use those opportunities to seek and understand how we may better advance his Kingdom on earth. In my life, my dogs have been the best teachers about how we are to live and interact with one another. Now, give your canine friend a hug! Then go into the world and spread the love
