After a chance meeting with a surrogate mother in downtown New York, dissatisfied business woman Catherine Brown decides to use surrogacy as a means of financing a new career pathway. The novel follows her journey and that of the recipient family, the McAllisters. However, several years after giving birth to a surrogate child, Catherine, now happily married and settled in her chosen career, is faced with an ethical dilemma when she learns her husband is infertile. Should she tell him what the doctor has said, or can she solve the problem herself and save him a lot of heartache? She still has some fertilised eggs in storage. She makes her emotional decision quickly. Catherine's web of deceit becomes even more tangled. Having moved interstate several times and with changes of name to suit her new persona, she comes face to face unknowingly with the McAllister family some time later. She stands to lose so much if and when the truth is revealed. Who knows? Who recognises the truth? The outcome is surprising.
