As a part of my Kaleidoscope Project the book presents four chapters of my novel, Lu Mountain (chapter 10-13), singled out because of their significance for understanding and healing the failures that gave rise to the great existential challenges in modern time, for individuals, nations, and the world. Some of the challenges are the presently ongoing financial and economic collapse that has swept across the imperial West; the terror orgies, the fascist environmentalisms and depopulation policies; the extreme nuclear-war threats against Russia and China, with boasts that such a war is winnable; and not least the critically ignored start of the next Ice Age in the 2050s, if not sooner, in which the territories outside the tropics become uninhabitable, where presently most of humanity lives. In these arenas the power of love, humanity, scientific honesty, and spiritual development, which have fallen by the wayside, need to be restored. This book is designed to focus on only one, and a rarely known aspect on the front of the failures, which is fundamental to the crisis. The aspect focused on in the book is the despotic nature of elitism, ranging from ecclesiastical and scientific despotism, all the way to political despotism. The book is divided into four parts that have been chosen for their progression on the theme of scientific freedom on which spiritual development depends, which furnishes the foundation for civilization. More on the subject can be found in the Editorial at the end of the book. My novel, Lu Mountain, from which the 4-part story is reproduced, is the last of the series of 12 novels named The Lodging for the Rose. The novel Lu Mountain is situated in China. The fictional story in the book begins in the wake of a cultural festival in a small fishing town on the great lake Poyang Hu. The protagonists live in a boat and had contributed to the festival by presenting the choral movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, played electronically from their boat. The main protagonists are a group of Americans living in exile in China, interfacing with a man named, Jacky, a high-level counterpart of a Chinese governmental institution.
