About a year had passed after I wrote The Dancer when I found the next story wanting to be written. Even though only one year had passed in my world, over 100 years had passed in their worlds. The story in The Dancer II is about as tame as the story in The Dancer. Which is to say, not at all. How have the relationships between The Dancer and her friends evolved in the last century? How will their friendships be strengthened in this book? The central character in The Dancer was The Dancer. The central character in The Dancer II is Jamil, the Artist. In case it's been a while since you read The Dancer or in case you never read The Dancer, let me give you a little review. Every time I write a story, the first person I share it with is my wife. After all, 99% of the stories I write, I write for my wife. All right so it's 101%, I was trying not to embarrass her. It had been a year since she'd read The Dancer, when I surprised her with The Dancer II and she was left trying to remember who all these characters were. Let me remind you who they are so you don't end up in the same predicament. In The Dancer, a young woman, The Dancer is in love with her two dance partners - Ramon and Raul. The Director selects the three of them to perform in a dance, but only he knows how the dance will end. As the Dancer spins between Ramon and Raul, she falls through the dance floor through Jamil, the Artist's, world, and into the world of Little-Flower the Shaman, Straight-Spear the hero, and Walks-Like-Thunder a horse who is a god. Somehow The Dancer, Little-Flower, Straight-Spear, and Walks-Like-Thunder end up back in The Dancer's world. The Dance ends with The Dancer spinning into the arms of her true love - Straight-Spear. And the audience roars with applause! If you need more review than that, go back and reread The Dancer.
