The Lord Jesus told His adversary, as the two met in the wilderness of temptation, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). How did He know what to say? How to use His Father's word as a weapon? How did that scrip-ture (found in Deuteronomy) become the "sword of the Spirit," an "ever present help in time of need" for Jesus? He studied it. He kept it before Him at all times.
