Kratom Kratom is a plant of much controversy and debate. It would appear that the controversy in the western world has resulted from the sale of mislabeled products that are not actually Kratom, or from attempts to mix it with other substances in order to circumvent the legal status of certain countries. The result is the same. Kratom has been blamed for side effects it does not provide unless it is consumed in such huge quantities that would make any substance lose its benefits and become dangerous.
