There is both a purpose for the human race we inherit and also a personal one that we must freely accept or not, but with one important caveat--once you center yourself on a Being outside of yourself, you will lose that center, if you don't sustain it, daily. Daily! That is the problem with our core values, we can't keep them there automatically. That is also the reason we have spirituality, although not all spirituality is authentic and will be able to keep us anchored.
