Selection takes place 1,500 years after the fall of civilization, or aka The Fall of the Internet, and one organization called the Academy, is the only place that has helped humanity through its troubles. They enlist writers to craft happy movies for a depressing world. Tim Lancaster is an Academy member who has lost his faith in humanity, and sees no point in life anymore. When he apprentices a young bio-engineered human being, Lora Redding, to become the worlds greatest writer, they embark through their own creativity to find some solace in the ravaged world. Through this time spent figuring out the past through Lora's own story, she finds that the Academy's own history is tangled up in mystery, as they research a young man, Sol Menskowitz, who created the Academy, but was exiled for reasons unknown to them. Pieces of his life start to enter her artistic endeavors, and through this, the shadows of the past start entering the armoire, creating danger and peril for Lora and Tim Lancaster. Meanwhile, a group of Resistance members, the people in the dark, are trying to combat and fight the Academy, but realize that they need to find a story that could put them on equal standard with the Academy. inside the darkness, there are visions that can not be explained, but foretell the future of the ravaged world. These visions cause the people in the darkness to fight amongst themselves, and they make a story of how a young ex-Academy member, Dalil, is taking their manuscript across the country to find one Academy member that might help them get their story to the public. These two stories will help create a unity that the world has not seen before. This is a story about propaganda, visions, censorship, homosexuality, humanity, surreal circumstances, and exploration of art when the world has lost the need to create it.
