One of the main objects of Dr. Siluk's new work, the novelette: "The Protagonist," is his non-dramatic form and non-traditional narration (seemingly in a poetic prose style); this being a central idea in this Kafkaesque effort (or surreal work); a labor that says it does not have to be like everyone else's (a near five year undertaking). The Protagonist and his counterpart Empsey appear to be one of the same, where one seems to try endlessly to appeal to the other on behalf of better judgment, but is unheeded by the other, perhaps a tug-of-war of repellent superiority. It would appear the two entities which seem separated by one another have each their own sense of self. The Protagonist attempts to stand against the system, whereas Empsey, attempts to obtain a goal by pursuit, within the system's boundaries. The Protagonist is helplessly drawn into frustrations and alienation. A closer look is perhaps inferring, something can be more real than what it gives the impression, or something that appears to be nothing, is really something, because you made it so, or someone made it so. The narrator intercedes. The novelette has lyrical inspiration, thematic thought and scheme and a disheartening end.
