PREFACE: Nothing is more pleasant to a child than growing up in the Upper East Region of a West African nation, Ghana. We usually gathered around my grandfather listening to folktales, seated in an orderly manner like individuals in an auditorium of American theatre hall of fame. Nature compensated our family clans and larger society of some degree of ignorance and destitution. Families and clans handle each other's problems collectively, devoid of discrimination. Family properties such as cattle were kept safe (just as Westerners operate joint account), for dowering and funeral activities. For this young guy who was about to bury his parents it was different altogether. So I asked myself, where is the old time religion of love, unity and comfort that dwell among families? In our world of today, when one is mourning, his or her close relations might pretend to be mourning alongside with them. However, some of these people have ulterior motives. Widows and orphans are more vulnerable during such periods. In this novel, the protagonist achieved his aim not using a radical method but Civilization to bring about societal transformation. Azurago Jonas Anafo ************** Atule was in a good mood until he was tooled he had a call at the school booth awaiting his answer. He was forced to truncate the sumptuous jollof meal he was enjoying in the dormitory. The statement "you are needed home" increased his state of suspense after answering the call that faithful day. Whilst contemplating the import of that statement from his uncle, Atule however remembers his father's observation that brisk speaking in parable among Africans fore shadow unpleasant information. With that fore knowledge Atule prepares himself both mentally and financially to set off for home. Apam, Atules roommate exhibits the virtue of love as a true African by granting him some financial help against any eventuality at home. Whilst heading toward Teshie (his village), Atule gets a lift from Atibil who attempts in asking him the question but does not complete, thus " are you just arriving for the ......?" Atule replies by saying "for what?" Atibil prevented himself from falling foul to the laid down principles of custom highly esteemed in Africa. The sound of the griot's instrument - goge and the invasion of the entire compound by different people made Atule's perception conclusive. It was now obvious to an ancestral world. His mastery of courage to follow the customary procedure of greeting the elders before any sad news is broken to him, makes him a true African. After knowing that he had lost his father, he prepares himself psychologically to assume that role. Arrow of success thus take a look at this poor African boy who struggles through thick and this to become a fully successful person.
