It's quite possible that we are the only beings who are intimately aware of their own mortality, of the certainty that we will, in fact, die one day. And this truth and our awareness of it really is a gift, as Mark Manson shares in his The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: "Without acknowledging the ever-present gaze of death, the superficial will appear important, and the important will appear superficial."
