When Louise discovers that her longtime friend and confidante-Della, or the Sayer-was secretly married to Pepper, the Prince of Hags, and bore him a child, it is the ultimate betrayal. Although Louise decides to forgive her, Della unexpectedly turns up dead. Louise suspects the Hags but upon further investigation believes they are not at fault.
