Paula the Waldensian is the true story of a little girl from the French countryside named Paula, who, when her father dies, comes to live with her cousins in the city. Paula is a Christian, but her Uncle and his children are not. She, through her actions and words, shines truth and light on everyone she meets, and many people are saved through her. - Sweet Home Press Into the home of an interesting but self-centered family in old France comes Paula, a young orphaned cousin, from the little village of Villar, in the Waldensian Valley. Though living very simply, tending cows, goats, sheep and rabbits, Paula has been brought up to know the scriptures. Her Lord and His Word are the center of her life, and she can no more keep this good news to herself than she can stop breathing or eating. This causes a good many complications, for her cousins' home was one where "religion" was a forbidden subject, never to be mentioned, and Paula soon found herself forbidden to read her own precious Bible. Paula's loving obedience, her happy friendliness and charm, her overflowing love for everyone she meets, win the hearts of all, family and neighbors alike, and cause many a change in the French countryside. - AB Publishing The Waldensians (also known variously as Waldenses, Vallenses, Valdesi or Vaudois) are a Christian movement founded by Peter Waldo circa 1173. Waldensians melted into Protestantism with the outbreak of the Protestant Reformation, and became a part of the wider Reformed tradition after the views of John Calvin and his theological successors in Geneva proved very similar to their own theological thought. The Waldensian movement first appeared in Lyon in the late 1170s and quickly spread to the Cottian Alps. Today, the Waldensian movement is centered on Piedmont in northern Italy, while small communities are also found in southern Italy, Argentina, Germany, the United States, and Uruguay. - Wiki Translator's note: "Paula" was originally written in French and translated from thence into Spanish; and the present translator having discovered this literary and spiritual jewel, felt that it should be given also to the young people of the English-speaking world, not only that they might know Paula herself, but that, through her, they might become more intimately acquainted with Paula's Saviour and accept Him as their own Redeemer and Lord.
