These apparently innocent questions should bedevil the existence of any conscious African leader, sage or visionary. For the last 50 years, education has become central to the social and economic life of most modern African societies and there has been a rapid rise in the number of educational institutions churning out thousands of graduates annually. In spite of these ingredients of progress, African societies are not experiencing growth as fast as other societies. This masterpiece is our effort to reconcile this mismatch. The essays provide a stitch in time to enlighten and challenge the administrator, the educator and the student to look beyond the school walls and more to the extent to which education can impact societies positively.
