The original gained fame-or notoriety-by taking Lafayette to America, where he assisted the rebels in overthrowing the rule of Great Britain. The history books state she was wrecked in 1793 but could that merely have been what the world was told? The French revolution was a world changing event but Great Britain was a stable and progressive nation that could and did oppose the excesses from the revolution. Samuel Crewe had an unusual attribute for a King's officer, as his French upbringing enabled him to act and sound like a Frenchman, which enabled him to achieve results that were impossible for other King's officers.
